Free Person

Hello there! So lately, I've been dreaming of a nice vacation. It's about time I pick up and go somewhere tropical for about a week. I'm thinking Puerto Vallarta...maybe the Bahamas... any suggestions? New destination equals new clothes, too! I recently bought this flowy off the shoulder top that's very boho chic. Too bad I can't imagine wearing it here in the Bay Area. I really need some good ideas on where I should jet-set to next!

Green Screen

The good news with living in a seasonless climate is that you can wear your clothes whenever you want to. So yes, I'm still wearing parkas and knee high boots approaching April! We've actually seen a few showers here in the Bay Area. One minute it's nice and sunny, and the next... BOOM! A hail storm. So it's great to be prepared for those days when it's hard to track exactly when/where an isolated shower will happen.

That's where my parka comes in. It's got a hood, and overall it's very lightweight. I paired it with some of my favorite basics, and now I'm worry-free as I'm out and about for the day!

Pho-real Fashion

Hey all! Well, I wanted to start off and say that I got sick again, which is super annoying because I had the flu in January. This time, it was only a sore throat but I hate when I'm out of commission. The good news is- I drink plenty of juices and soups. The bad news is- I'm bored to death and even watching an episode of The Walking Dead proves to be too much. I managed to venture out to get some pho, and literally just grabbed the first items I saw out of my closet... and here it is! I love the taste of pho when I'm sick, but I'm also told to avoid meats due to "toxins" when under the weather. What do you guys eat when you're not feeling well? I need a recipe arsenal since I seem to be getting sick a lot lately!

Super Casual

99.9% of the time, I wear a skirt/dress to work. About 80% of the time, I'm wearing high heels. I think its safe to say that I do not want to wear either when I'm off the clock. Dressing up is fun, but in reality, I'm running around all day, and while you see women hailing cabs in pencil skirts and Louboutins in magazines, I don't find that realistic. I'm a big proponent of leggings, sneakers, tees, and flannels. They are the most basic items in any given wardrobe, but I swear they can still be stylist. This look is by no means over the top, I'd call it lazy, actually. Yet, I still think I look presentable for a casual afternoon.

I'm (Electric) Blue

Let's get straight to the point... I am in LOVE with this jacket. It's amazing. It's a vibrant electric blue, it's got great detailing, and fits like a glove. Oh... did I forget to mention that it's from Target??? Honestly, sometimes I think Tar-jay clothes can be a little pricey for what they are, but with this piece, the price was on point! Come to think of it, this whole outfit is basically from Target! Didn't realize it at the time!

Still going strong with my Winter boots as we transition to Spring here. Are you looking forward to all the pretty flowers blooming??

Wear to Work: Pink Skirt

I'm trying to frequently get these 'Wear to Work' posts up because more than anything, I get questions/comments on my work attire. Some may say that it would be difficult/near impossible to wear a bright hot pink skirt to the office. Those people are not named Erica Kato. Bright pink is one of my favorite colors (as featured in countless posts), so here is a way you can rock a girly fave in the workplace.

I paired the bold skirt with a peplum top. Super trendy when topped with a gold bar belt.  This outfit works with either classic flats or understated heels. I've linked my flats below, which you can always find at places like Norstrom, Saks, or Neiman Marcus... but keep an eye out @ Nordstrom Rack! Got my pair there for about half off :)

Blushing

Hey everyone!!! I am so excited to share my favorite outfit (of the moment) with you all! Literally everyone I know has seen me in this. Multiple times. The blush v-neck is casual and cute. These jeans fit me perfectly and are above all comfortable. And these shoes?? Don't get me started! It was love at first sight with these studded blush color flats. Do you have a go-to outfit? Whether I'm brunching or running errands, I can't help but reach for this combo for an effortlessly cute look.

Side note: I'm really obsessed with this lipstick I'm wearing. It is a true nude for me. It's Maybelline Color Sensational: Truffle Tease. Honestly, I've had better luck finding nude-for-me shades at the drugstore vs. high end department stores. A lot of the designer lines do not have a great selection for women of color- that's just my opinion. Sorry, MAC. Love your pinks and reds, but not your nudes. As of right now I have over a dozen nude of MLBB shades and the above look at Milani's Matte Naked are my stand-outs. I've done some swatches for girls my color in my inaugural beauty post! Be sure to check it out.

Bright White

Hey everyone! Well as we continue to roll into March, it's not quite Spring yet, HOWEVER, we sure want to dress like it is! I am busting out the whites early (forget waiting until Memorial Day!). Since it's still slightly wintery, I matched some grey boots that were in full rotation during December with my outfit. It's fun to mix seasonal clothes around. This was an outfit I decided to wear to a good friend's baby's 100 day party. It was so much fun catching up with people I haven't seen in ages... while socializing with some of my amazing co-workers. It's always a blast when we're all together. I miss the days when we used to see each other weekly, but people grow, leave, and move on. I never pass up an opportunity to spend quality time with the people in my life.

Wear to Work: Khaki Trench

So I''ve been getting a lot of requests for work outfits. I figure that portion of my closet is seen so frequently, that I didn't need to do posts on it. I will try and include some work outfits for you all here and there, and you can follow along on how to "get my look" when dressing for the office!

Although I'm probably cold 100% of the time even though I work indoors, I always bring a coat of cardigan to throw over my shoulders from time to time. Try pairing a light-weight trench with a sheath dress... it's also a perfect look for your lunch break or even happy hour!

Purple and a Peacoat

I'm a little bummed winter seems to be wrapping up here (well, not according to Punxatawney Phil... but I digress). The weather, for the most part, has been warm and sunny so it is RARE when I get to wear a coat in the Bay!

Because the rest of the outfit was pretty much neutral and low-key, I got to rock some purple pants! How fun! These corduroy pants from Uniqlo are a must-have, and believe me, I have them in several colors!

Wear to Work: Shades of Grey

Hey all! Wanted to share another work look with you all. I love this basic 3/4 sleeve sheath dress. It's tweed, longer, and very comfy. I rocked it quite a bit in the winter and loved playing around with different accessories, silver accents, and neutral tones to compliment the look. I can't wait to start incorporating pastels and whatnot for spring looks! What's your favorite spring color combo?

The Perfect Cardigan

Well, spring is definitely a tricky, tricky season to dress for. It frankly isn't very warm out, but the sun shines a lot and California isn't freezing cold, either. So what is a girl to do?? I took a summer dress, paired it with a winter cardigan.. and voila! The perfect spring outfit.

Let me tell you about this AMAZING cardigan. It's the softest clothing item I own. It matches everything. I'm also obsessed with how the front is layered and cascades down my outfit. First off, it's from Abercrombie & Fitch (yea... I still shop there occasionally). It was on super sale (like $16 at the time). For those of you who don't know, Abercrombie was my first job in high school. I was a sales associate and was pretty hardcore about the brand circa 2007. While I get the controversy surrounding their marketing/products, I do think the quality is pretty good. Prices used to be astronomical (even with employee discount), but since it isn't as popular anymore, they're pricing is more competitive- thank goodness! Check them out... the style at A&F has really evolved!

Bright Blue

Hey all! I must say, it's hard to feel blue when wearing this cobalt blue sweater! It instantly brings me to life. I'd go as far as saying this is my happy color :) I picked this up @ Forever 21, and discovered this sweater can be paired with anything! It will be a great transition piece as we move from winter conditions to spring weather!

Trenched In Sun

Well.... it's March! Spring is practically here, and it's time to shed some of the dark colors from the Winter and brighten up the wardrobe! I've been loving neutrals lately. I took tans, beiges, and whites for this simple yet classic look. I'm still on the hunt for the perfect trench coat (similar to Burberry... but without the price tag). Anyone have any suggestions/leads?

Maybe I should check Shopbop out and see if I can find anything! Yesterday, their 25% off everything sale started. Use code BIGEVENT15 for deals on handbags, dresses, and shoes perfect for Spring!

Wear to Work: Pink Dress

I think we can all agree I'm pretty biased with colors, haha. It's no secret that neon/hot pink is one of my favorite shades to wear. I went all out with this bright dress, and gave it more shape with the gold bar belt. I paired it with my navy Longchamp since it was raining this day, and I wanted to keep all my belongings dry. God, I can't tell you how much I am loving these Jessica Simpson pumps!! They are so comfortable and I love the heel height and pointy toe. And guess what?? I think I found the perfect 'nude' lipstick for me! I wear Maybelline 'Truffle Tease' ALL the time at work, and I've received so many compliments. I gravitate toward high end make-up products, but I found this lippie @ WALMART! It looks great, and has impressive staying power through the morning.
