Wear The Wild Things Are

Haha get it, "wear"?! I'll stop being so punny now :) When I first saw this shirt, I immediately knew it was different. Its structured like your basic work shirt, but it has little zebras all over! How fun! I paired it with a little black tank dress and white shoes (black and white like a zebra, no doubt) for this shoot.. but it could easily be paired with yoga pants or skinny jeans!

I Hear Ya!

Thank you all so much for the comments I've been getting. I have looked over all your suggestions and I indeed need a new camera for higher quality outfit pictures. Over the next week, I'll be reading up on the best camera to get the job done at a reasonable price... and I'm DEFINITELY up for suggestions! Send them my way, guys, I appreciate it!

To let you all know what I've been working on, I'm going to be adding some new segments to the blog. I will continue the "Whatever the Weather" series which will feature one item of clothing... and then show ways to dress up or down.

I'm also considering using Polyvore to put together "dream" outfits or certain looks for special occasions.

Would you all like to see a Q&A fashion section? I'm open to all ideas!

Black & Tan

No, not the famous sundae a la Fenton's Creamery. Today, I paired a basic black summer dress with texture detail with neutral accessories. This little black dress has crochet detailing, I added on a brown belt and my trustworthy BR wedges. It is a polished look, but comfortable, and you don't have to try too hard to achieve it. The result was as follows...

Urban Safari

When I first saw this olive/army green silk dress hanging up at my local mall's newly opened Michael Kors boutique, I knew I instantly had to have it. Its a sophisticated piece, will transition easily from summer to fall, and day to night. As with anything silk though... Boy does it get wrinkled! Also be careful wearing it in too-hot weather.. Its not as breathable as one would think!

Prints, Pinks, Purple, & Paisley

As you can already tell from the title, there is a LOT going on with today's outfit. It contains pretty much my favorite colors and patterns all thrown together for the perfect comfortable summer day outfit. This kimono is so unique looking- it really is a statement piece. It ties the entire outfit together, and makes what is actually a really old ensemble feel and look brand new. Check out the details for yourself!

A Spoon-Full of Floral

Well, it looks like summer had reached the mid-way point (especially if you're in school). If you're here in the Bay Area, the hottest weather of the year is ahead of us. I thought I'd jump on the crop top train before its too late. I've been hesitant to try it, thinking a) I'm way too old for that and b) Its never THAT hot here.. but when paired with a high waisted skirt... the trend can actually be pretty conservative and rocked during even mild weather conditions.

Yes, Another Kimono Post

... And this is NOT going to be the last! Kimonos are so effortless and really can add a pop to jeans and a tee, or just shorts and a tank. Try collecting different patterns, play with different lengths, too. This was actually my first kimono purchase (and definitely not the last). Kimonos are great in really warm weather, as they don't cling to the skin.

Summer Colors of the Wind

I'm definitely all about wearing neutrals. There's something so sophisticated- and safe, even- about blacks, whites, and tans. Summer is the only time I experiment with color.. In this case, mint green! I love how structured this skirt is. I paired it with one of my favorite tops from Express (psstt.... its reversible!) for a birthday dinner. I even played with colorful accessories to complete the look.

Chambray on the Brain

Deciding to mix things up a bit with a little bit of a throwback look and a little throwback information about me. I remember on my first day of pre-school, my mom tried to dress me in jeans and I was NOT having it. I went a good 19 years of my life without ever putting on a pair of jeans. Denim just didn't appeal to me. Then along came chambray- and I was sold! This top is soft, the style os turning classic, and it goes with just about everything! The front-tie makes it a little 90s (as does the floral skirt... but it makes the look feminine and fun!)

Pretty in Paisley

I've always enjoyed paisley print attire- its just so fun and its a classic pattern that can be dressed up, too (men's ties). I could not pass up on this fashion find @ Forever 21, and I gave the look a summery pop with this denim vest that I absolutely loving right now! Blue is a go-to color for me, and I'm sure you'll see a LOT of it on the blog this summer!

Tickled Pink

Pink has always been my favorite color. Yet, I must say, it can often be a challenging color to pull off. Its about finding the right shade for your skin tone. For instance, bubble gum and baby pink look atrocious on me. I think I found my sweet spot with neon/electric pink though. This dress is full of POP, and since it speaks for itself, I kept the accessories to a minimum!

Orange You Glad Its Summer?

Growing up in San Francisco, you tend to wear a LOT of orange (SF Giants, baby!). I always thought the color clashed with my skin tone, but I'm learning that the right shade of orange can help accentuate a tan! Keeping up with the theme of simple and summery, I paired the look with my favorite pair of white skinny jeans and my tried and true wedges.

I purchased these white jeans (favorite pants of the season) at an airport. Because I didn't have enough clothes in the two suitcases I brought, I guess?

White Jeans are a MUST for the summer.

The sun kept going in and out during this shoot so some of the pics look a bit darker than others.

Maxi-mizing the Basics

Pretty safe to say that every girl has atleast a simple white t-shirt, a vest of some sort, and perhaps a maxi skirt from seasons past. Well, putting the 3 together left me with a comfortable ensemble that helps me brave the cool Bay Area mornings and warm & sunny afternoons. I usually stock up on the basics but for whatever reason, I've gone 25 years without a denim vest. I am now loving it, and throw it on as a layer almost every other day!
