Leopard Love

Hey lovelies! Just can't get enough of this coat, but I haven't really thought of any good ways to wear it as we transition into Spring. It's big, leopard print, and faux fur. It's definitely a winter coat... if not late Fall at best. I've paired this coat with all black, some pops or color, dresses, slacks, etc. Any ideas on how I can wear this into March and beyond!?

A Spoonful of Pink

Hey all! For today's look, I kept it neutral for the most part... and added pops of pink with my necklace and purse. This gorgeous Kate Spade bag was a Christmas gift from my parents, and it is the perfect girly accessory.

Can you all believe it's going to be March soon??? Spring, in my opinion, is a difficult season to dress for. It's still not very warm, but you can't be caught in your drab colors/parkas that you rocked during the Winter. How do you guys keep your Spring fashion looking fresh?

Instagram Round-Up: February

Here's what I've been up to this month for those of you following along! My life in pictures @The_FashionForecast on Instagram! Twitter: @_EricaKato

The beginning of the month was a little chilly, so this scarf and hat was perfect. My grandma actually knitted the hat for me, I love it. Sometimes we knit together and catch up on life. I can only do headbands though, LOL.

This was a selfie I snapped while out of town. The weather was so warm, and got away with wearing a tank dress and denim vest. I'm wearing my new favorite Maybelline Color Sensational Truffle Tease lipstick! It was $5 and my new fave!

My best friend Brooke came to visit. She's in med-school in NYC right now, so it was great to see her. We went shopping in Palo Alto, and I fell in love with the above shoes at Nordstrom. They are BP brand, and remind me of the Valentino's! These blush colored studded flats will be perfect for Spring, and they are oh-so comfortable!

This was my Valentine's Day look. I worked that day so excuse the sleepy face. I wore a bandaged bubble gum pink Bebe dress with a beige moto jacket on top since it was a bit cool out that night. I went to 5A5 Steak Lounge in the Financial District. Delicious.

The awesome folks at I Love Oakland sent me some really cool t-shirts and tanks that I'm dying to wear. I was born in Oakland, so these are going to be so fun to sport. Look out for ways to style these tees in a future post. Check out to get yours in the meantime! #ILoveOakland

Grey Scale

Sometimes the wind is unbearable! It just feels so cold, and I want to stay bundled while running around town. A waffle knit hoodie is a dressed up version of your typical gym class attire, and I kept the look a little interesting with these destroyed jeans. A perfect after work ensemble with a clean slate of colors!

I wore this to go to Chevy's. Sorry not sorry, but I like chain restaurants. Yes, I live in SF which is the hub for gourmet dining.. but you can't beat Chevy's chips and salsa, believe me.

Wear to Work: Shirt Dress

Continuing with my "Wear to Work" series, I am featuring a shirt dress! This look is so easy, comfortable, and universally stylish. I chose a classic navy dress and paired it with nude pumps and a Tory Burch bag.

Let me tell you about these pumps though... oh my goodness! Expect them in a LOT of upcoming posts. I had a vision- a pair of patent nude (on me) pumps with a pointy toe, but it HAD to be comfortable. I was walking around Nordstrom with my best friend, and I swear these looked so perfect on the pedestal. These shoes are a dream... I want to buy the same pump in ALL the colors!

Meanwhile, Lent is in full swing, and I've given up clothes shopping ("UHHH... but you run a fashion blog?", they say). And the answer is yes. I'm considering this a "Love My Closet" opportunity to continue to highlight some of the great clothes I already own. I plan to donate a lot of my clothes during Lent as well. Not buying clothes isn't as difficult as I thought it would be. ALSO.. I'm not eating meat on Fridays and that's been a lot tougher. Any of you giving up anything for Lent? Let me know!

My Inaugural Beauty Post: Nude Lipstick

Hey all! I am so glad you've stopped by my blog today. This is my first ever beauty post here on The Fashion Forecast, and I hope to make it a regular feature. First off, I am not an application expert... I am actually the worst person to do a tutorial on primers and contouring and all that jazz. I am, however, pretty nifty when it comes to finding colors/products that work for me and my skin. It's a process, let me tell you. There's a lot of trial & error involved. Whenever I go to a makeup counter seeking advice, make-up artists have such a tough time matching me because my skin tone is so unique. I am mostly of Black/Japanese descent (with a little French and Cuban mixed in), so I am definitely not a one-size-fits-all when it comes to make-up. In fact, finding nude lipstick has been especially challenging. Here are some of the lipsticks I've come across that work for me (including my HG... which is the CHEAPEST on the list!). I really do hope this post helps someone out in the process, and maybe inspires someone to be confident in the skin they're in.

(From left to right: L'oreal Collection Privee Eva's Nude, L'oreal Collection Privee J. Lo's Nude, & Milani Color Statement Moisture Naked Matte)

So for the three above, they are some of the least expensive in my entire lipstick collection. I originally tried looking for Kim Kardashian's favorite nude lip combos (notoriously MAC Angel + NARS Turkish Delight), but she is a bit lighter than I am. So I thought, "Who else does the nude lip well?" and immediately thought of J. LO! I then found out she is featured in a nude lipstick campaign for L'oreal. So I picked up hers and Eva Longoria's since they are quite similar to me in terms of color.

L'oreal Collection Eva's Nude: This is a pretty opaque lipstick. Very moisturizing. It's on the browner size, which is perfect if you have bronze skin. It's a touch too dark on me right now, but it will be perfect for the summer. Lasts about 3 hours. Not bad for a $5 Walmart purchase.

L'oreal Collection J. Lo's Nude: Quite sheer. Buildable coverage after 3-4 swipes. This one leans pink. Looks dry to me, and prefer to layer a lipgloss on top. Exfoliating your lips before application is a must. 2-3 hours of wear on me.

Milani Color Statement Naked Matte: Quickly becoming a favorite. Matte but not drying. Very opaque, one swipe across the lips will do. Very hard to find. I couldn't find it online, and checked 5 drugstores before I found just one left. Looks perfect with Milani's Nude Touch gloss.

(From left to right: Maybelline Color Sensational Truffle Tease, Sonia Kashuk Pink Buff, & Sonia Kashuk Barely Nude)

This next batch is all very affordable as well. I'm constantly on the hunt for dupes because I hate spending more than $10 on lipstick, honestly. The Sonia Kashuk lippies are found exclusively at Target, and I love the NARS-like packaging. They also have SPF which is great for skin protection, but I'm allergic to it so I don't use these lipsticks too often despite the beautiful color pay-off. The Maybelline Truffle Tease is my #1 holygrail nude lip product!!! I LOVE IT!!! More details on these affordable beauties below..

Maybelline Color Sensation Truffle Tease: Absolutely gorgeous color. Most unique out of my collection of nudes. It's a bit sheer compared to some of the others, but two swipes gives a more opaque finish. Peachy-beige color perfect for warm tones. Glossy finish and wears for about 3 hours. There are others in the collection that I am dying to try out!! Highly recommended.

Sonia Kashuk Pink Buff: Almost dupe for the very popular (and expensive) Tom Ford in Sable Smoke! Unique and pretty color. I tried it on and my mom said I looked like Kim Kardashian. Satin finish and smooth texture. This one looks amazing on me, but again, my lips react to SPF so I wear this sparingly :( But for everyone else, it's a must try! Luxurious lipstick at an affordable price.

Sonia Kashuk Barely Nude: Beige w/ a hint of peach. Hydrating and goes on smoothly. SPF for those of you who like that added bonus. I find it very similar to Pink Buff, so I don't think you need both. Wears about 2-3 hours.

(From left to right: NARS Audacious Lipstick in Barbara, and MAC Half 'n Half)

So I spend the better part of my time shopping testing out lipsticks at the MAC counter. Frankly, I do not think MAC does a great job with nude lipsticks for women of color. Yes, many have found their favorites there, but I am not one of them. I love Half 'n Half to death, but it is way to similar to other lippies they sell such as Blankety, Jubilee, Velvet Teddy, etc. From now one, I will go to MAC for my bright pinks and reds. For those of you who have not checked out the NARS Audacious line, I will tell you that it is my favorite formulation of lipstick EVER. It is pure luxury on your lips. Also, the NARS Barbara is one of the only lipsticks on this list that I feel 100% comfortable wearing without a gloss layered on top.

NARS Audacious in Barbara: Super creamy and opaque. Moisturizing despite being matte. I can't say enough great things about the formulation of this lipstick. Interesting color that I can't find a dupe for, so its worth the $32 price. Lasts 4 hours on me.

MAC Half 'n Half: A total MLBB (my lips but better) shade on me. Leans brown. Creamy amplified lipstick with a subtle hint of peach. Moisturizing and long wearing. Highly recommended out of other MAC nudes.

(From left to right without flash: L'oreal Eva's Nude, L'oreal J.Lo's Nude, Milani Naked Matte, Maybelline Truffle Tease, Sonia Kashuk Pink Buff, Sonia Kashuk Barely Nude, NARS Barbara, MAC Half 'n Half)

(Colors in the same order with flash)

Hope you all enjoyed it! Keep in mind, I wear lipgloss over many of these because I prefer the look of glossy lips better. In an upcoming post, I will take you through my nude gloss collection. What are your favorite nude lipsticks? I'm dying to know!

Staple Pieces

Hi all! Wanted to share this casual look with you. The weather has been pretty mild and quiet, so I just dress in comfortable layers to add/subtract as the temperatures increase/drop. I took my staple pieces (chambray shirt, black t-shirt, and faded skinnies) and paired them with some classy nude d'orsay pumps to make it feel more polished.

So I'm taking my mom to see 50 Shades of Grey next week. Talk about 50 shades of awkward. Here's to the minimum number of uncomfortable scenes! I'm also requesting that we sit in different rows, haha. Lawd help me. Have any of you seen the movie? Thoughts?

Camel Stripes

A cool sunshine! Sometimes, layering is always a good idea. For this particular day, I mixed colors and prints for a perfectly casual look. A camel colored cable knit sweater paired with a striped turtleneck kept me warm running errands. My most comfortable jeans and flats rounded out this look. I'm looking forward to more dresses + color as Spring approaches though!

Thursday, February 19, 2015

On my way to lunch on one fine sunny afternoon, I happened to drive by this abandoned movie theater in Emeryville. E-ville is one of my favorite areas to dine and shop, so it was really weird that I've never seen this before. I had to stop!! I thought, "what an interesting place to snap some pics!!". I hoped it would give off a post-apocalyptic/Walking Dead vibe with the boarded up windows and blank marquee... didn't really get that but still a pretty interesting backdrop. Today's outfit is simple... basics made to pop with a leopard print scarf!

Brights And Whites

Pairing some of my wardrobe essentials today! A bright and comfy sweater, my clean white chucks, and distressed jeans. On this particular day, I went to eat pho. It was a local spot (hole in the wall, if you will) on a cold but sunny day in the city. What do you wear to go out for a quick bite to eat?

Red Head

Sometimes, it's best to keep things simple (you know, not only in life, but in fashion!). Day to day, I absolutely love this light-weight v-neck sweater. These are probably my most worn jeans, too. I've never paired these favorites with these particular accessories, so in theory, it was a new look!

I tried to look put together while running simple errands around town. How do you usually dress for life's day-to-day activities?

Denim vs. Denim

Hey lovelies! The blanket scarf trend continues, but with a color update! The one I have been featuring on the blog had Christmas colors in it. This one is perfect for transitioning into spring! I paired 2 different denim tones and my favorite OTK boots. This color palette is perfect for marching into March!!

Girl About Town

Hey all! So for this post, I decided to dress up a tad more for a casual lunch. It was a sunny day, temps were in the low 60s... but it felt a little warmer in the sun. I paired a very basic turtleneck, some destroyed faded black jeans, and my trusty favorite boots with this hot pink leather moto jacket. Talk about a statement piece! Can't wait to throw this jacket on top of nice dresses in the Spring & Summer. It is both girly and edgy, which is basically what I strive for in day-to-day style. I'm also rocking some serious arm candy in this look... peep the arm party consisting of Purple Peridot jewels and Cartier.

It's really weird to see all the "Resort" collections being released in department stores. I feel like I just got around to completing my winter wardrobe, and now I have to start shopping for vacation clothes. Speaking of which.... I nice beach getaway sounds nice. Any suggestions on where my next trip should be?
